Framed in black: 50 x 62 x 2 in, “Almost full circle” is an original acrylic painting on stretched canvas with 24 karat gold leaf by American impressionist artist Karen Hewitt Hagan. This over-sized vertical painting has warm tone yellows, oranges, and vibrant reds. Drawing her inspiration from the hills of Tuscany, the artist brings out the movement of the abstract poppy stems as they grace over a lightly textured background. The golden circle beams out to stir you deep into the painting. Painter and Gallery Owner, Karen Hewitt Hagan, is living the quintessential life of an accomplished artist. The Florence, South Carolina native has taught plein air painting in Charleston, Italy, the Bahamas, and France. Currently she teaches privately in her Charleston Studios. Her works are collected nationally as well and are in the permanent collection of fine resorts like The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island. Though she’s traveled the world, lived aboard a boat (aptly named Plein Air) for over 8 years, she says Charleston continues to be her calm, stable source of inspiration.
